Samsung has released the One UI 8 Watch update for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, based on Wear OS 6. This update marks the fulfillment of Samsung’s promise to provide the latest OS to its modern smartwatches. However, it will be the last major update for these models.
The One UI 8 Watch update is currently being rolled out to Wi-Fi variants of the smartwatches in South Korea, with plans to expand to other regions and models in the coming weeks. The update, which has a firmware version of R870XXU1JYK4/R8700XM1JYK4, is reportedly over 1GB in size, so downloading it over Wi-Fi is recommended.
Users in South Korea can check for the update by opening the Galaxy Wearable app, navigating to Watch settings, and selecting Watch software update. After downloading, users should ensure their battery is at least 50% before installing.
The Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, launched in 2021, were Samsung’s first Wear OS-based smartwatches. With the release of One UI 8 Watch, these devices will no longer receive major updates as they are now over four years old.
One UI 8 Watch introduces a refreshed user interface, including a Tiles page for multiple widgets and complications. The update also features the Now Bar, which displays ongoing activities like music playback and workouts, along with new double pinch gestures and wrist shake actions. Additional enhancements include Bedtime Guidance for improved sleep support, the Vascular Load feature, an improved notifications view, new battery charging effects, and a list view in the app drawer. Samsung has already rolled out One UI 8 Watch to the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch 6 series.
