Huawei HM740: HarmonyOS Laptop Featuring 21-Hour Battery Life

Huawei has unveiled its latest laptop, the HM740, marking the brand’s first foray into office computers equipped with HarmonyOS. This development extends Huawei’s operating system beyond mobile devices. The HM740 is specifically designed for enterprise productivity, featuring a blend of portability, performance, and advanced connectivity.

The laptop boasts a slim and lightweight design, weighing 1.32 kg (2.91 lbs) and measuring 14.5 mm (0.57 inches) in thickness. It features a 14.2-inch OLED touchscreen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 2.8K resolution, and a peak brightness of 450 nits, covering both sRGB and P3 color gamuts. The display has received TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort certification, ensuring low flicker and high eye protection, along with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 for accurate color rendering. Additionally, the touchscreen is compatible with the Huawei M-Pen 3, supporting handwriting and gesture controls.

Targeted at enterprise clients with smartphone-centric workflows, the HM740 promises seamless integration within productivity sectors such as finance and energy. Its performance is notable, capable of decompressing 2.5 GB of data in 2.7 seconds and compressing the same amount in 9.8 seconds, reflecting Huawei’s hardware and software optimization.

A significant feature of the HM740 is its 70Wh battery, which Huawei claims offers the longest endurance in its PC lineup. The device can reportedly play 1080p video for up to 21 hours and support 15 hours of voice calls, surpassing competitors like Apple’s M4 MacBooks. For enhanced privacy, the laptop includes a Super Privacy Switch that can disconnect the camera, microphone, and other sensors with a single click.

In terms of connectivity, the HM740 is equipped with a three-antenna Wi-Fi 7+ system designed to eliminate dead zones and maintain stable connections over distances of up to 420 meters in open environments. It also features NearLink, a next-generation technology that provides high bandwidth, low latency, and improved energy efficiency, allowing the device to broadcast signals using a low-power chip even when powered off.

Software optimizations include the HarmonyOS Celia AI assistant, which can generate research-level reports, manage files intelligently, and enhance note-taking. The laptop also supports Dual Digital Space, enabling users to switch between personal and enterprise environments with a four-finger swipe gesture.

While pricing and global availability details have not yet been disclosed, the HM740 underscores Huawei’s commitment to expanding its operating system and smart features within the enterprise sector. Although it may not be as visually striking as the MatePad Edge, its impressive battery life is likely to attract attention. Further information on its worldwide availability is anticipated soon.
