iPhone chips may soon be assembled and packaged in India, according to a new report. Apple is reportedly in early discussions with local chip manufacturers to explore this possibility.
The report indicates that Apple has already held talks with CG Semi, which is currently constructing an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Gujarat. This facility could initially focus on display-related chips.
If discussions progress, CG Semi would need to meet Apple’s stringent quality and reliability standards for any partnership to materialize. Apple is also reportedly in talks with other companies.
Currently, Apple sources its display driver integrated circuits (DDICs) from suppliers such as Samsung, Himax, LX Semicon, and Novatek, all of which have manufacturing facilities in South Korea, Taiwan, or China.
Over the past several years, Apple has steadily expanded its manufacturing operations in India. For instance, the entire iPhone 17 lineup for the US market is produced in the country.
