Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition Officially Announced Featuring Distinctive Master Zoom Ring

Xiaomi and Leica have worked together over the past few years, so the confirmation of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition is not entirely unexpected.

Xiaomi confirmed the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition on its official Weibo account. This version of the phone features a physical rotary ring on the back, allowing manual control over zoom.

The company refers to this feature as the “Master Zoom Ring,” which surrounds the entire camera module. The teaser suggests the phone may also have more prominent Leica branding and a specially designed box, along with potential Leica-branded accessories.

Though nothing is officially confirmed yet, an announcement is expected on December 25, where more details will be revealed.

Aside from the “Master Zoom Ring” and possible accessories, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition is expected to be similar to the regular Ultra model. It is likely to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and come in two colors: a black/dark gray variant and a green variant. It remains uncertain whether the Leica Edition will have a different finish.

Regarding the camera setup, it is rumored to feature a 1-inch main sensor alongside a 200MP variable zoom periscope telephoto lens. Xiaomi claims that this telephoto camera has received Leica’s Apochromatic optical certification, which is a first for a smartphone, aimed at reducing chromatic aberrations and enhancing clarity.

Official details, including pricing and availability, are expected to be announced soon.
