Sony Honda Mobility has announced that the Afeela will be the first car worldwide to support PlayStation Remote Play, enabling passengers to stream PlayStation games directly within the vehicle.
This feature allows users to remotely play games from their PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 consoles using the car’s built-in screen. The games are streamed through PS Remote Play and can be controlled via the Afeela In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system.
According to Sony Honda Mobility, passengers can use PS Remote Play even while the vehicle is moving. However, for safety reasons, drivers can only access this feature when the car is parked. This enhances the Afeela’s role as an entertainment space, particularly during long journeys or charging stops.
The company states that a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps is necessary for the feature to function, with a stable connection of 15 Mbps recommended for optimal gameplay. The quality of the experience will depend on network stability and signal strength.
The first Afeela model was officially introduced in January at CES, following an initial teaser the previous year. Sony Honda Mobility is a joint venture between Sony and Honda, merging Sony’s digital entertainment technology with Honda’s automotive expertise.
More information regarding availability and final features is expected to be announced as the vehicle’s release date approaches.
