The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is preparing for a technology fair in early 2024 to investigate new automated election systems (AES) for future elections.
COMELEC spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco stated that the fair will assist the agency in reviewing modern voting technologies and determining which systems are most suitable for the country’s electoral process. He mentioned that more in-depth research will be conducted next year.
Laudiangco emphasized that the new system should be user-friendly, secure, accurate, and transparent, highlighting the importance of technology that allows for quick verification and clear auditing to ensure public trust in the process.
During the May 2025 elections, COMELEC utilized automated counting machines from Miru Systems. The last AES technology fair took place in 2019 in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the COMELEC Advisory Council.
