Tipster Revegnus recently shared on X that South Korean tech firm Samsung is developing four new camera sensors, two of which feature resolutions exceeding 300MP.
The potential sensors include the 50MP ISOCELL GN6, the 200MP HP7, a 320MP sensor, and a 440MP HU1 sensor. The 50MP ISOCELL GN6 is expected to be Samsung’s first 1-inch sensor, designed to compete with the Sony IMX989, but it is not intended for use in Samsung phones, likely making it available for Chinese mobile manufacturers.
The 200MP HP7 sensor will feature 0.7-micron pixels, similar to the 200MP HP2 but with larger pixels. Initially planned for the S25 Ultra, its release was postponed due to high production costs.
An unnamed 320MP sensor may debut with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, supported by mobile chips like the Dimensity 9200, which can handle up to 320MP resolutions.
Lastly, the 440MP HU1 sensor’s application remains uncertain, as it may be utilized in mobile devices or other sectors such as automotive or industrial applications.
In 2020, Samsung announced ambitions to develop sensors surpassing 500MP, targeting a 600MP sensor for emerging fields like autonomous vehicles, IoT, and drones. The 440MP sensor could serve a similar purpose to the anticipated 600MP sensor.
