Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Durability Test Faces Significant Challenges

A recent durability test of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has revealed significant weaknesses in the device. While the phone boasts a sleek and precise design, the test results indicate that it may be the most fragile foldable device Samsung has produced to date. This raises concerns about its long-term durability.

Samsung has designed the Galaxy Z TriFold to be extremely thin, with a frame measuring just 3.9mm at its thinnest point. The build materials include Armor Aluminum for the outer frame, ceramic glass fiber reinforced polymer for the back panels, and titanium components in the hinges. The design is so delicate that a warning system has been added to alert users if the device is folded incorrectly.

One notable weakness is the screen. The outer screen features protection from Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, but testing showed it scratches at level six and deeper marks at level seven. The main display, made with a standard plastic protective layer, is prone to scratches and can even be damaged by a fingernail.

Furthermore, the durability test indicated that the Galaxy Z TriFold has poor heat resistance. The outer screen failed after just seventeen seconds of flame exposure, and the main display ceased functioning after only ten seconds. Additionally, the device is not very resistant to dust. The hinge produces loud grinding noises, and internal magnets can attract metallic particles from dust.

The device also failed the bend test, becoming the first Samsung product to do so completely. It relies solely on an aluminum frame for cooling without any thermal paste or vapor chamber. Overall, the Galaxy Z TriFold does not seem to be a sustainable option for long-term durability. Repair costs following any damage could be significant, and the device appears best suited for very careful users, requiring strong protection from dust, pressure, and rough handling.
