RALEIGH, N.C. — Gov. Josh Stein announced the approval of North Carolina’s proposal to expand high-speed internet across the state.
This approval allows the state to allocate more than $300 million of its $1.53 billion funding to projects aimed at providing high-speed internet to over 93,000 homes, businesses, and community institutions by mid-2026.
The funding is made possible through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s approval under the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program.
Gov. Stein stated, “Broadband empowers students to learn, helps businesses grow, supports our health care system, and strengthens our economy. With this additional funding, we’re moving one step closer to connecting every household and community in the state.”
Additionally, $670 million from the American Rescue Plan Act is set to connect over 250,000 homes and businesses by the end of 2026.
With more than $1 billion remaining from the $1.5 billion BEAD allocation, Gov. Stein has called for federal flexibility in fund usage to enhance online safety, workforce development, and infrastructure resiliency, aiming to secure universal connectivity and drive economic growth.
