On the eve of Christmas, many users are finding Steam inaccessible. Reports suggest that the platform is down, halting activity for its users.
Details surrounding the outage remain unclear. However, at approximately 2 PM ET, it became evident that this was not routine maintenance. The Steam Status website is currently reporting websocket errors and indicates that the entire Steam store, community, and web API are offline. Increased traffic to the SteamStat page further suggests ongoing issues.
According to Downdetector, issues have been reported since shortly after 1 PM ET.
One user on the Steam subreddit has suggested a possible explanation for the outage, though its accuracy remains uncertain.
