Xiaomi Watch 5 Set to Launch This Week Featuring EMG Sensor and Snapdragon W5 SoC

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is set to be unveiled on December 25, alongside the Xiaomi Watch 5. This new wearable is positioned as Xiaomi’s most premium offering to date, featuring a stainless steel case and a sapphire crystal display—both materials typical for high-end analog watches.

The Xiaomi Watch 5 will incorporate an EMG (electromyography) sensor that detects electrical signals generated by muscles. This technology could facilitate gesture navigation, allowing users to interact with the watch through movements like flicking their wrists or tapping fingers in the air. Additionally, EMG may assist in analyzing muscle fatigue.

Powered by the Snapdragon W5 chipset, the Xiaomi Watch 5 will operate on HyperOS, although it remains unclear whether this will be a custom version or an overlay on Google’s Wear OS. The watch will be available with three strap options: leather, steel, and rubber/silicone.

While an international launch of the Watch 5 is uncertain, it may coincide with the global release of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
