A group of Korean YouTubers is evaluating the durability of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold by repeatedly folding and unfolding the device during a livestream. So far, the phone has successfully endured more than 150,000 folds without any breakage.
The test began over a week ago and continues to be conducted. The YouTubers are constantly folding the two hinges of the Galaxy Z TriFold to assess its longevity under strenuous use. On the eighth day of the experiment, they streamed for over three hours and achieved the milestone of 150,000 folds.
During the livestream, the team observed some changes in the hinge. After approximately 145,000 folds, the hinge began losing its resistance and felt significantly smoother. They also reported creaking sounds earlier in the test, but the phone has continued to operate normally.
Samsung states that the Galaxy Z TriFold’s display is designed to withstand up to 200,000 folding cycles, which is based on an estimated usage of around 100 folds per day for five years. This is considerably more than typical daily use for most users, even for a large foldable device like the TriFold.
In comparison, Samsung has noted that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can last up to 500,000 folds. Previous tests on that model showed it still functioning after 200,000 manual folds. The TriFold test remains active, and viewers are keenly watching to see how much longer it will last.
