WhatsApp is enhancing its user experience by integrating AI features with ongoing interface design improvements. A recent update aims to simplify and expedite media sharing and is currently available to some Android users via the beta program.
The update introduces a redesigned attachment and sharing menu within the app. Previously, users had to navigate through specific options, such as the gallery, to select their media (photos or videos). The new layout offers a more streamlined and visually intuitive experience, featuring shortcuts for Location, Contacts, and Events, and now automatically displays recent photos and videos stored on the device.
This update enables users to select and share recent media directly from the attachment menu, streamlining the process and making media sharing faster and more efficient, particularly for those who frequently send recent photos or videos in chats.
In addition to speed, the new interface enhances decision-making. By displaying recent images immediately, users can quickly review their latest photos and choose whether to share one or capture a new photo on the spot, minimizing unnecessary navigation and reducing time spent browsing the gallery.
Despite the improved workflow, WhatsApp maintains its existing editing process. When a photo or video is selected, it is not sent automatically; instead, the app opens the media editing screen, allowing users to add drawings, stickers, text, or filters before sending. This ensures users retain full control over customization and presentation.
Another notable change is the new terminology in the attachment menu, where the option previously labeled “Documents” has been renamed to “Files”. This shift reflects a broader approach to content sharing, clarifying that any type of file can be shared, not just traditional document formats.
Currently, this redesigned sharing menu is still in an experimental phase and is accessible only to a limited group of beta testers on Android. It has not yet been rolled out to all beta users, but Meta/WhatsApp has been implementing changes swiftly, suggesting that wider availability is likely as testing progresses and feedback is assessed.
