Amazon Expands Alexa+ to Let Ring Doorbell Answer Visitors Naturally

Amazon is expanding its smart home ecosystem with Alexa+ Greetings, a new feature that allows the Ring Doorbell to communicate with visitors. This enhancement goes beyond simply notifying homeowners when someone is at the door; it can identify who is present, understand their intent, and respond naturally. Alexa+ enhances the management of the front door.

The newly launched Alexa+ Greetings combines Ring video analysis with Alexa’s conversational intelligence. This integration enables the camera to recognize visual cues from visitors, such as clothing and actions, to determine their intent. Each visitor is treated independently; for instance, a delivery person leaving a package is handled differently than a guest requesting entry. After assessing the intent, Alexa uses context and preset instructions to respond clearly and politely.

The system can also manage follow-up questions without human intervention, aiming to make interactions efficient for homeowners and frequent visitors. Personalization features allow users to enable Alexa+ Greetings in the Ring app and set custom instructions through Alexa-enabled devices. These commands guide Alexa on how to respond to delivery personnel, salespeople, or neighbors.

Additionally, users can create customized preset greetings and adjust instructions at any time by asking Alexa. The feature also supports various everyday scenarios, such as politely declining door-to-door sales, acknowledging friends or family, and collecting messages when no one is home.

All interaction details are saved in the Ring app, along with visitor information and video recordings. The feature is currently being rolled out to Alexa+ Early Access users in the U.S. and Canada, but support is limited to select Ring wired doorbells and subscription plans.
