Google launches faster Gemini 3 Flash, now available in the Gemini app and Google Search

Google has introduced Gemini 3 Flash, a faster model following the release of Gemini 3 Pro last month. Designed for speed, Gemini 3 Flash is said to feel as quick as a Google search for most prompts.

Gemini 3 Flash is now the default model in the Gemini app, activated when users select “Fast” or “Thinking.” Meanwhile, Gemini 3 Pro remains the choice for advanced math and coding tasks, although Google believes Flash will suffice for most other uses.

Flash is also more efficient in terms of resource usage, making it a favorable option for Google. Benchmarks show that it significantly outperforms its predecessor, Gemini 2.5 Flash, and matches OpenAI’s GPT-5.2 in certain tests, while being notably faster than Gemini 2.5 Pro.

Additionally, Gemini 3 Flash has become the default model in Google Search’s AI Mode worldwide. This enhancement allows the AI to better understand user needs, enabling more nuanced questions and thoughtful, well-formatted responses.

In the US, Gemini 3 Pro is available in Search. Users can select “Thinking with 3 Pro” in the AI Mode model drop-down to receive in-depth assistance for complex queries, including dynamic visual layouts and interactive tools.

Lastly, Nano Banana 3 Pro is also accessible in Search for US users. To utilize it, users must select “Thinking with 3 Pro” and then choose “Create Images Pro.” The variety of options may seem complex, and there are hopes that Google will simplify them in the future.
