Google Translate is introducing updates aimed at enhancing translations and language learning tools. With the integration of new Gemini AI capabilities, the service now provides more accurate translations, particularly for idioms, slang, and nuanced phrases.
This update is currently available in the U.S. and India, supporting nearly 20 languages, including Spanish, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, and German.
A new beta feature for live speech-to-speech translation allows users to hear real-time translations through headphones. This system maintains tone, emphasis, and cadence, making conversations, speeches, or media easier to follow.
The beta feature is available on Android in the U.S., Mexico, and India, supporting over 70 languages, with plans to expand to iOS and additional countries in 2026.
Additionally, the Translate app has improved language learning tools, enabling users to receive feedback on speaking practice and track their learning progress. The update is set to expand to nearly 20 countries and supports translation between various language pairs, including English-German, English-Portuguese, and Bengali-English.
